Tigers Even Series With Win in Game 2

NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Verlander and Detroit’s bullpen held down the New York Yankees’ mighty offense, bringing just enough 100 mph heat to send the Tigers home with a split.

Curtis Granderson hit a go-ahead triple off Mike Mussina in the seventh inning to cap a comeback from a two-run deficit, and the Tigers beat the Yankees 4-3 Thursday to even their best-of-five AL playoff series at one game apiece.

Five face felony charges in HP case

SAN FRANCISCO: California’s attorney general Bill Lockyer filed felony charges Wednesday against computer maker Hewlett-Packard’s former chairperson Patricia Dunn and four others for illegally gathering phone records of board members, journalists and others in an effort to find the source of information leaks on boardroom discussions.

Delgado’s Four Hits Lead Mets Past Dodgers – New York Times

NEW YORK (AP) — Minus two top starters, the New York Mets got dynamic postseason debuts from Carlos Delgado and David Wright to jump ahead of the Dodgers.

Cliff Floyd’s solo home run in the fourth inning gave the Mets a 2 -1 lead. The Mets went on to beat the Dodgers 6 – 5 in Game 1 of their divisional series.

Back in the playoffs for the first time since losing the 2000 Subway Series, the Mets capitalized on a wild baserunning blunder by Los Angeles and a perfectly respectable performance from emergency starter John Maine in a 6-5 victory Wednesday.

Billy Wagner closed it for his first postseason save, fanning Nomar Garciaparra with a runner on second for the final out.
