Food Network Star Becomes Daytime Hostess

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Rachael Ray is everywhere with her Food Network shows, best-selling cookbooks and lifestyle magazine. Now, she’s adding daytime talk show hostess to her crowded resume.

The high-energy cook who shows America how to whip up inexpensive meals in 30 minutes promises her hour-long syndicated show, debuting Sept. 18, will present “can-do” advice about cooking, travel, relationships and pop culture trends.

2 Humpbacks Entangled Off New England

BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — Rescue crews were attempting Sunday to free two humpback whales entangled in commercial fishing nets or marine rope in New England coastal waters.

Hooters Chairman Brooks Found Dead

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — Robert Brooks, the chairman of Hooters of America, Inc. who made his fortune selling chicken wings served by scantily clad waitresses, was found dead at his home Sunday, officials said. He was 69.

It was unclear how Brooks died, but the Horry County coroner’s office told The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News that an autopsy would be performed Monday.Read More

MD Suspected in NYC Building Collapse Dies

NEW YORK (AP) — The doctor suspected of blowing up his town house rather than allowing his ex-wife to benefit from its sale has died, nearly a week after suffering critical injuries in the blast, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday.

Dr. Nicholas Bartha, 66, died late Saturday, said Mary Halston, an administrator at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

N.J. Man Who Conned Marsalis Heads to Jail

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man who took money from jazz musician Wynton Marsalis and his manager as part of an investment plan, then spent the cash on himself, is going to jail.

During a hearing Friday in a federal court in Newark, Jay Bailey, 40, was sentenced to 35 months in prison for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from Wynton Marsalis Enterprises and Ed Arrendell, the musician’s business manager.

Israel Widens Scope of Attacks Across Lebanon

METULA, Israel, Sunday, July 16 — Expanding the reach of its airstrikes, Israel on Saturday hit coastal radar installations in northern Lebanon that it said were targeting its warships and early Sunday bombed the southern suburbs of Beirut. Police investigated the site of a rocket attack by Hezbollah guerrillas at the train station in Haifa. Early Sunday, Israeli warplanes bombed the Beirut suburbs for hours.

Israel also struck roads in Lebanon’s north and east on Saturday, with one attack killing at least 16 civilians, most of them children. At the same time, Hezbollah forces continued their rocket barrage into northern Israel, striking the resort city of Tiberias for the first time.

Pedro Martinez Goes to Hospital for Tests

CHICAGO (AP) — Mets right-hander Pedro Martinez went to a hospital and needed an IV after developing a fever following Friday’s game against the Cubs.

Martinez returned to the team Saturday and was stretching in the outfield before the game at Wrigley Field. He’s been on the disabled list since July 6 with an inflamed right hip.
