New Jersey Budget Crisis Shuts Down Casinos and Parks – New York Times

TRENTON, July 5 — As the New Jersey budget deadlock continued despite an unusual holiday session of the Legislature, Atlantic City’s 12 casinos and the state’s 42 parks shut down. The designated time for the shutdown was 8 a.m., but some of the casinos closed early, about 7:30 a.m.

Laid-off employees asked to return iPods they received as gifts

National Semiconductor received a lot of press last month for announcing plans to give every employee a 30-gig video iPod as a reward for its “best fiscal year”. The company then laid a bunch of people off and demanded the iPods back, claiming that they were just loaners.
